About Oxford Digital
Oxford Digital is a consultancy and delivery partner specialising in digital transformation for the NHS and private healthcare providers.
We bring together technology, data, and human-centred design to improve patient experiences, streamline clinical workflows, and enable smarter decision-making. Our work supports delivering integrated care systems, interoperable platforms, cloud-native solutions, and AI-powered tools built around user needs.
The role
We’re looking for an Enterprise Solution Architect to join our growing team and play a pivotal role in shaping digital healthcare solutions across several high-impact programmes.
From national infrastructure to local integration efforts, you’ll guide technical direction, assess enterprise-wide implications of design decisions, and ensure alignment with clinical, operational and business priorities.
This is a strategic, hands-on role suited to someone who can confidently engage with senior stakeholders, advise delivery teams, and ensure that architecture choices are practical, scalable, and secure.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the design of end-to-end enterprise solutions that meet current and future needs across health and care settings.
- Ensure solutions align with NHS data and digital standards, including interoperability frameworks (e.g., FHIR, SNOMED CT, MESH, GP Connect, HL7).
- Provide assurance and technical governance across delivery workstreams, balancing agility with architecture principles.
- Work closely with product managers, delivery leads, developers, analysts, and clinical informaticians to co-design scalable, interoperable platforms.
- Assess and mitigate risks to integration, security, scalability, and performance.
- Contribute to business case development and procurement processes by advising on architectural trade-offs.
- Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and advise clients on opportunities to modernise legacy systems or adopt innovation responsibly.
- Champion architecture best practices and coach other team members on digital health architecture principles.
Required skills and knowledge
- Proven expertise in enterprise or solution architecture within healthcare or complex public sector environments.
- Deep understanding of health data standards and integration methods (e.g., FHIR, HL7, RESTful APIs, messaging queues).
- Proficient in cloud-native and microservice-based architectures, particularly with Azure and/or AWS.
- Knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and containerisation (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with the digital health policy landscape in the UK, including NHS England strategies and standards.
- Ability to create architecture artefacts (e.g., logical, physical, data flow and security models) and communicate them clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills across clinical, business, and technical teams.
Desirable skills
- Experience working on projects related to Community Diagnostic Centres, Integrated Care Systems, or Electronic Patient Records.
- Understanding of AI, ML, and data analytics applications in healthcare.
- Exposure to openEHR, IHE profiles, and OpenAPI specifications.
- TOGAF, BCS, or relevant architecture certification.
- Experience working in agile, user-centred delivery environments.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years in an architecture or senior technical design role.
- Track record of delivering enterprise-scale digital solutions in regulated environments.
- Prior experience in or with the NHS, private healthcare providers, or health tech consultancies.
